Glitch Text Generator
You've probably seen this effect before - text that looks like it's glitching out or being corrupted by some supernatural force. It's called zalgo text, and it works by stacking special Unicode characters on top of regular letters.
Type your text, adjust the intensity slider, and copy the result. Fair warning: high intensity glitch text can be hard to read and might annoy people if overused.
What Zalgo Text Actually Is
Zalgo text uses Unicode "combining characters" - marks designed to go above or below letters for languages that need diacritics (like accents in French or tone marks in Vietnamese). Stack enough of these combining characters and text starts looking corrupted.
The name comes from an old internet horror meme about an entity called Zalgo who corrupts everything it touches. The text style became associated with that meme.
Using the Intensity Slider
The slider controls how many combining characters get added to each letter:
- 1-3 (Low): Subtle distortion. Text is still readable. Good for usernames or when you want a hint of glitch without chaos.
- 4-6 (Medium): Noticeable effect but controlled. Works for announcements or headers.
- 7-10 (High): Full corruption. Text extends way beyond normal boundaries. Use for dramatic effect, not readability.
Where People Use This
Discord
Probably the most common use. Server announcements, bot responses, role names, and messages. Most Discord servers are fine with it, but check the rules first - some servers ban zalgo because it can be disruptive.
Memes and Horror Content
Cursed images, creepypasta, horror game content, and surreal memes all use glitch text. It instantly signals "something is wrong here" in a visual way.
Gaming
Some games allow Unicode in player names. A moderately glitched name stands out in kill feeds and scoreboards. High-intensity glitch usually doesn't work because games have stricter character limits.
Social Media Posts
Halloween content, horror movie reactions, or any time you want to add a creepy vibe. Works on Twitter, Instagram captions, and most other platforms.
The Regenerate Button
Each time you generate glitch text, it randomly selects which combining characters to use. Click regenerate to get a different pattern at the same intensity level. Some results look better than others.
Things to Know
It's not actually corrupting anything. These are legitimate Unicode characters. They won't break websites or devices. Some platforms filter extreme zalgo, but that's the platform's choice, not damage.
Copy includes all the combining characters. When you paste glitch text, you're pasting the base letters plus all the stacked marks. Character counts will be higher than they appear.
Screen readers can't handle it well. If accessibility matters for your content, avoid zalgo text. Screen readers will try to announce every combining character, which is incomprehensible.
